Season Premiere Recap

Friday, September 26th, 2008

The premiere of ‘Ugly Betty’ was well worth the long, dry summer of reruns. We now have answers to cliffhangers. Who did Betty choose? What happened to Daniel? How will Wilhemina change Mode now that she is editor? All this and more were revealed in the one hour premiere.

Technical Difficulties

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Good News and bad news. Good news is that I did get ‘Ugly Betty’ taped. Bad news is that it has no sound on my VCR! Good news is that it will play on my parents’ VCR. Bad news is that I didn’t get to watch it last night.

So look for a recap sometime later this evening as I will watch the episode this afternoon as the earliest.

The Wait is Almost Over

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

In just a few hours, the two hour season premiere of ‘Ugly Betty’ will be here! It all starts at 7pm central.

From the TV Guide preview, we’ll hear Betty’s decision when it comes to Gio and Henry. Also, Ignacio gets a new job at a fast food restaurant. Daniel deals with the sweeping changes at Mode now that Wilhemina is in charge. Lindsay Lohan guest stars as Kimberly and Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa make a guess appearance as themselves. What a great premiere it’s going to be.

There is too much good television on Thursday nights. Of course we have ‘Betty’ but there is also , and The Office. The VCR will be working overtime tonight.

Cast seems to be adjusting to New York

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

The pilot of ‘Ugly Betty’ was shot in New York City and producers had wanted to shoot the show there. It was just cheaper to shoot it on a back lot in Los Angeles. But since then it has become cheaper to film in New York thanks to a new tax rebate.

The actors are adjusting to paparazzi as well as a lot of attention from bystanders while filming on location. This season we can expect to see more of our favorite characters out of the office - giving us a glimpse into their lives outside of Mode.

Ratings for the second season of ‘Betty’ dropped following its great first season numbers. Producers are hoping the location change will add authenticity of the show and will make it more enthralling to watch. We can expect to see a lot of New York as the backdrop in season three.

So no more green screens and special effects to create the illusion of New York City as now all filming is done in the Big Apple.

Only one more day until the season premiere! Some big changes coming this season as Betty gets a new love interest and Wilhemina makes sweeping changes at Mode. Producers promise a lot will happen very fast, so these first few episodes should be action-packed.

All the TV shows I like are on Thursday nights. I may have to tape ‘Ugly Betty’ and watch later. It will be a late night because I can’t wait to see the premiere. A recap of the show will probably not be ready until Friday but it really depends how late I have to stay up to watch. It will then depend upon how coherent I am at that time.

Eric Mabius at Toys R Us

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

Apparently Eric and family are settling down into their new life as New Yorkers. It seems his wife and young son have made the move to NYC. Soon the family will have another one to add to the Mabius roster. While Eric and his wife, interior designer Ivy Sherman - still hammer out the name for their second child, Eric spent some time this past weekend at Toys R Us Disney preschool toy event.

Mabius read stories to the crowd that gathered to watch demonstrations of new Disney toys. Now that is one story time that I would have loved to attended. Sadly that would have been a heck of a drive but I’m thinking it might have been worth it.

Vanessa Williams loses Emmy

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

Vanessa Williams - the saucy Wilhemina Slater on ‘Ugly Betty’ - was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a comedy series. But she lost out to Jean Smart of ‘Samantha Who?’ It’s still an honor to be nominated for an Emmy and to lose out to such a fine actress on another ABC show is telling of just how strong their prime time lineup is.

Vanessa wore a stunning Kevan Hall printed dress. It’s easy to see how she became Miss America. She may not have won the Emmy but she wins over ‘Betty’ fans each episode. Vanessa brings such spunk and life to her character that is just fun to watch the bad girl even though you know it will probably wind up hurting either Daniel, Betty, or both.

It seems few of us were tuning into the Emmy’s this year as they apparently had their lowest ratings ever. With the Internet and having access to information so easily or watching shows on demand, it’s not surprising that less people are watching it on television. Maybe with broadcasting in high definition these award shows can get a face lift and bring more information to the viewers in a friendlier format.

Lohan reprises her role in season three

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

Season three will kick off in just a few short days. How exciting is that? ‘Ugly Betty’ is now being filmed in New York rather than Los Angeles to take advantage of incentives. Lindsay Lohan will also be reprising her role as Kimberly - a girl who was mean to Betty in high school. The paparazzi has been very interested in the taping of “Betty” when Lohan has been on set. The cast thinks all the attention will die down when Lohan is finished with her episodes.

Lohan will be in the season opener entitled “The Manhattan Project.” It will also be two hours. Hopefully we’ll get some answers from season two’s cliffhanger like who will Betty choose and what is Hilda thinking getting involved with a married man? Plus what happens to Daniel now that he is no longer editor? We should get a lot of answers in two hours.

Lohan’s character will appear in six episodes and will be working at Mode. ‘Betty’ star Vanessa Williams has been praising Lohan’s performance in her small screen role and experienced first hand the long hours that go into shooting a weekly one hour show.

No word on yet if Lohan might return later in the season. I guess it really depends upon how the first six episodes play out. Lindsey is a fun actress to watch, so she should provide some fun moments in the first few episodes of “Betty.”

Soon enough Thursday night 7pm will be here. It can’t arrive soon enough for us Betty fans wanting to know the answers to season two’s finale episode.

Ugly Betty - The Book

Friday, September 19th, 2008

Ever wonder what the fictional magazine Mode would really look like? Ugly Betty the Book has the look and feel of Mode magazine but has more information about the TV show like cast bios and behind the scene layouts.

For us Betty fans, there’s no better companion to one of the best shows on television. The book not only features cast interviews but has several articles that might just appear in Mode magazine. Such articles like how to win friends at work and your style horoscope. You can also get make up tips from Hilda.

Ugly Betty The Book looks interesting enough and know that it covers a great subject. It just might be worth it.

Season 2 on DVD

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

The complete second season of Ugly Betty is now available on DVD. What a perfect way to get ready for season three than to watch all of season 2.

As with season one, season two left us with many cliffhangers but this time not only the ones on camera. Shortly after season two wrapped up, it was announced the show would be moving to New York City. It is also rumored that Rebecca Romjin’s character, Alexis, will have a lesser role in season three. Another rumor floating around is that Eric Mabius will have a lesser role in season three as his family plans to stay in Los Angeles. Sadly it’s been confirmed that both Christopher Gorham (Henry Grubstick) and Freddy Rodríguez (Giovanni ‘Gio’ Rossi) are moving on from Ugly Betty as they both have other engagements. But there is good news as there will be another love interest for Betty.

So season three will have lots in store for fans. With so many new shows in the sumer, it’s been hard, if not impossible, to catch any reruns of Ugly Betty. Picking up the 5-disc season two might be the only way I can watch those missed episodes and remember exactly everything that happened in season two.

Still getting the boxed set would certainly help pass the time until the premiere arrives, which is September 25th. Season two lists for $59.99 but can be found cheaper. It can also be rented through Netflix for those wanting to watch the episodes but aren’t interested in buying the DVDs.
