Monday, March 30th, 2009

America Ferrera was up for a Kid’s Choice Awards. The awards show from Nickelodeon was held Saturday night. America arrived at the show looking anything but like an Ugly Betty.

America was nominated for favorite TV actress. She lost to Selena Gomez - the star of Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie.

In the Motherhood

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

motherhood Well tonight I had to tune in to watch In the Motherhood. I guess it’s just habit to watch ABC at 7pm.

The show was pretty cute. A lot of laughs and funny situational comedy. I won’t go into too many details since it hasn’t aired everywhere just yet. Let’s just say that of the three moms I know moms just like them. Well, maybe the two sisters. Rosemary is in a league of her own.

It will be cute to watch while we wait for new episodes of Ugly Betty.

Mode After Hours

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

amanda314quotesAre you having Ugly Betty withdraws yet? Well there are the webisodes Mode After Hours to keep us entertained.

I caught the latest one by sheer luck as my browser loaded the ABC homepage and the webisode auto played.

I’ve never been a fan of webisodes mainly because they aren’t central to the overall plots so I always thought they might be sort of lame. Turns out I was wrong. Well at least about them being lame. The latest one is called Big Package as a big package arrives for Wilhemina. The webisode features Marc and Amanda.

The package arrives after Connor has left, so Marc knows the present will just upset Wilhemina. This is when Amanda reveals what she does with some packages that arrive in the mail - she keeps them at her desk for a pick me up when she’s down. They naturally open the package to Willie and a few others including one that Amanda stashed that was Marc’s from Cliff - his former boyfriend. You know that’s one thing I’ve missed on recent episodes of Betty and that’s Marc and Amanda being Marc and Amanda. Sure they’ve had scenes but it’s nice to see an extended one. It has me really looking forward to watching the rest of the Mode After Hours.

So for those Betty fans who haven’t seen any Mode After Hours, they are definitely worth checking out and may help to pass the time until the new episodes are airing again. From what I’ve seen, Betty fans should really enjoy the webisodes and the extra screen time for some of the most beloved Mode employees.

Ugly Betty Season 3 on DVD

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

bettysuarez Season three isn’t quite over as we still have a few episodes to go(even though we have to wait for them). But it has already been announced when season three will be available on DVD.

TV Shows on DVD has the news about when Ugly Betty season three will be available on DVD. According to the website, it will be September 22nd, 2009.

Apparently some of the DVD extras include bloopers, deleted scenes, and a special vignette on coming home to New York. The decision to move production to New York sparked a lot of talk and even got the California lawmakers to pass a bill to make it more enticing for film crews to stay in the Golden State. It will be interesting to see this behind-the-scenes look at the move.

The box set will retail for $59.99 in the United States and $79.99 in Canada.

Ugly Betty to return in May

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

314 The rumor has been that when ‘Ugly Betty’ goes on hiatus that it wouldn’t return until June. Apparently we may not have to wait that long for the rest of the season of ‘Ugly Betty.’

‘Ugly Betty’ possibly will return May 7th. Reports are that the season finale will run May 21st and it will be a two hour event. ‘Ugly Betty’ will go on hiatus and ABC will air ‘Samantha Who?’ and ‘In the Motherhood’ in the Thursday time slot.

This week’s episode - The Sex Issue - will be the last that we will see of Betty until May 7th. But judging from the title of the episode, it should be a good one to keep us talking for weeks.

I haven’t read that much about tomorrow’s episode but I gather that Betty is ready to take her relationship with Matt to the next level but Matt is hesitant for some reason.

Hopefully the sources about a May return for ‘Ugly Betty’ are true. That does make a lot more sense than a June season finale.

The Mother of a Problem Recap

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

motherproblem2 Betty meets Matt’s mom, Hilda’s family sets her up with Councilman Archie, Wilhemina sells some of her favorite things, and Daniel comes to accept an important decision from Molly. A lot happened and as far as episodes, it was OK. Not the best but pretty good. More after the jump.

Rebecca Romijn returns to ABC

Monday, March 9th, 2009

Rebecca Romijn Good news for Rebecca Romijn fans. She is slated to star in a new ABC series “Eastwick.” Rebecca will play the lead Roxie Torcoletti in this story based on the book and movie ‘The Witches of Eastwick.’

Rebecca played Daniel’s brother-turned-sister Alex/Alexis Meade. Alexis has left Meade for the time being and lives in France. Her departure was timed around the birth of Rebecca’s twin babies.

“Eastwick” will revolve around three women who discover extraordinary powers when a mysterious man moves to town. The 1987 movie starred Jack Nicholson, Michelle Pheiffer, Cher, and Susan Sarandon.

There have been two pilots created for this show that never aired. The most recent one was done in 2002.

I hope this doesn’t mean that a return to Mode is ruled out for Alexis. Rebecca is such a phenomenal actor and would really like to see her return - if only as a guest appearance - to “Ugly Betty.”

A few notes about ‘Sugar Daddy’

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

sugardaddy Mode is in financial shambles while Betty faces her own financial family crisis. The plot of the show was fun and seemed to borrow from the current financial state of the country.

The show also featured Ignacio in the kitchen making his favorite food - Mole Poblano. Mole Poblano is Mexican stew. The mole(pronounced Mo-lay) is the sauce of the stew. Apparently mole poblano can differ greatly from one family to another. It is definitely a family recipe that is passed on from generation to generation.

For those that are curious about the song used at the end of the episode, it’s ‘Ain’t gonna lose you’ by Brett Dennen.

Next week’s episode is entitled ‘The Mother of a Problem’ where we will meet Matt’s mother. From the previews, it looks like it could be a less than pleasant experience for Betty.

Sugar Daddy Recap

Friday, March 6th, 2009

sugardaddy This week’s ‘Ugly Betty’ dealt with the aftermath of Connor’s theft from Meade publications as well as Betty’s own monetary woes as her family is being evicted from their home. The episode really shows Daniel’s depth as both a businessman and a boyfriend. We also learn more about Matt.

Music from ‘Ugly Betty’

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

betty As I was watching last week’s episode “Things Fall Apart,” I thought what a wonderful song they played at the end with the montage of characters. And of course, it wasn’t listed in the credits and I didn’t record the episode. My Internet connection is through satellite, so streaming video is a no no. Therefore, I couldn’t watch the episode again to hear the song.

After searching I finally found the name of the song thanks to Heard on TV.com. (must remember to bookmark that website) The song was Black Tables by The Others. It’s available through iTunes.

So many times I hear a song on ‘Ugly Betty’ and want to know who sings it. It makes it difficult to search for it if you can’t remember any of the words. Now at least I know where to turn for answers.

Ugly Betty Spin-off ideas

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

urieI was reading an interesting article about TV characters that needed saving. Basically these characters were being under used in their current TV show and would be much better with their own show. It got me to thinking about if there was an ‘Ugly Betty’ sequel, which character would be best to carry this new show?

With the current plots in place, it seems like a good choice would be Marc. Maybe when he graduates from YETI he gets a chance to either become a writer or start his own magazine. One of Betty’s past love interest like Gio might make for a good spin-off. Or even a funny Office-like setting featuring Henry might have potential.

One possibility I like but may be too close to breaking up the whole show would be to have Hilda(Ana Ortiz) in her own show. Hilda could move out on her own, and start her own business. Sort of like an updated Mary Tyler Moore Show. Not having Hilda on the show wouldn’t be good since she really represents Betty’s family. Sure there’s Ignacio but if you take Hilda then you take Justin. Betty and Hilda share a lot of sisterly advice that’s good for the show because it reminds us of Betty’s values and roots.

It’s kind of fun to think of a spin-off of ‘Ugly Betty.’ Which character do you think could be the star of their own show?

‘Ugly Betty’ Bill passes in California

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

onlocation2 California is fighting back to once again look appealing to filmmakers. The California Assembly passed a bill that’s being called the ‘Ugly Betty’ Bill that will give $500 million in incentives over the next five years It’s been dubbed the ‘Ugly Betty’ Bill because the ABC show moved production to New York to take advantage of several incentives from the state of New York.

California is in a pickle when it comes to finances and has held off passing such a bill. But the state has finally decided that they should do this to compete. California used to be the place to go but now so many states and even Canada offering incentives for filmmakers.

‘Ugly Betty’ belongs in New York and having New York as their backdrop for many scenes has really added to the show. I can’t imagine that ABC would move the show again. But we are talking about show business, so I guess anything can happen.
