Watching Ugly Betty

Episode #16

This episode of Ugly Betty starts with Betty dreaming and boy does she have some freaky dreams. First Claire shows up in her dreams (drinking of course) and threatens to kill Betty is she tells anyone she killed Fey Sommers. Then Henry shows up to talk about his girlfriend who Betty sees as an over made up, tramp and the two kiss right over Betty.

In the office Daniel and Alexis get off the elevator together they seem to be getting alone pretty well and Alexis even adjusts Daniel’s tie before they go there separate ways. Daniel offers Betty two tickets to a VP only party, she seems distracted and before he can get into his office she yells out that his mother had Fey Sommers killed.

Marc puts out a “gaypb” to find out why Alexis is being so chummy with Daniel. He finds out that she has no friends. Christina is asked to snitch on Betty and Daniel but says she wants no part. Wilhelmina orders Marc to be her new best friend, “Be her new Betty”. Marc replies “Guess I have to start eating potatoes”. Wilhelmina invites Alexis out to the ballet with her.

Daniel goes to see his father who tells him to get a lawyer but not just any lawyer, Grace Chin (Lucy Liu), “The Chin”, turns out to be a woman who Daniel was supposed to go on a date with in college but he ditched and never called. Becks tells him to give her a call she will be happy to hear from a man.

Betty is talking with Christina about Henry’s girlfriend who she is sure is a tramp. When Christian gets a call from Sarah Jessica Parker, she freaks out and Betty takes the call and does a rather funny Scottish accent. Christina is told she has to design a dress for Sarah Jessica Parker in 12 hours.

Betty then goes to Mode Cafeteria and runs into a new girl, they make friends and Betty invites her to the VP event before she finds out that her new friend Charlie (Jayma Mays) is actually Henry’s girlfriend. Betty is crushed! After lunch Betty tries to hide from Henry under Amanda’s desk. Of course Amanda rats her out. Henry thanks her for inviting Charlie out and says the only thing she’s been doing since she got there is watching TV in bed (ouch!). Amanda tells Betty “Watching nerd love is so tedious”. Amanda tells her to seize her inner Mode bitch and fight for her “dweeb”.

At the Suarez home Ignacio is letting Hilda practice on his head. Justin wants to take his dad to see a production of Hairspray. Ignacio asks: “He knows that’s not a strip club right?” Santos is not exactly thrilled either and tries to get out of it at first, Hilda convinces him to give it a shot.

Back in Daniel’s office “The Chin” shows up and she is gorgeous. Daniel is shocked and when Betty comments on it he says back in College she was a mess “glasses…hair everywhere” (perfectly describing Betty). He realizes this and says it “totally works for some people”. Daniel tries to apologize to “The Chin”, after pretending she doesn’t remember who he is she totally fusses him out.

Betty and Charlie are at the subway platform. Betty keeps seeing Amanda in the people around her telling her to ditch Charlie so she will freak out about New York and go home and she does! Betty contacts Henry and they are trying to look for Charlie. Betty tells him she ditched Charlie on purpose, because she likes Henry, and she dumped her boyfriend.

Back at the office Daniel is forced by “The Chin” to make calls to all of the women he wronged in college, she doesn’t know he is only calling Becks. She gets excited and keeps refering to herself in the third person. They make love while Becks is listening the whole time.

Marc is helping Christina design a dress. He tells her there is no fabric to use; they have to use office supplies like paperclips and staples. Great little scene here with a Rick James song playing in the background.

Best scene in this episode: Alexis and Wilhelmina are broke down in a seedy sports bar. Alexis meets Joel (Jerry O’Connell) and wants to hang out for a while. They shot some hoops and watch basketball together when it’s time to go he asks for her number. Alexis seems hesitant then give it to him. Joel starts laughing and tells her “it was just a bet; he doesn’t hit on freaks unless he’s getting paid for it” (what a jerk!) Wilhelmina comes over and decks him, then stomps on him as she and Alexis walk out.

Justin is disappointed that Santos can’t see Hairspray since the subway has stopped due to the weather. So he decides to reenact the whole play on the subway in front of everyone. Justin is dancin and singing, then some jerk on the subway decides to be rude. Santos stands up for Justin and tells the guy he will listen and when his son is done he better clap, everyone applauds.

Alexis and Wilhelmina are in the back seat of the town car talking. Alexis says “people are kinda awful”. Wilhelmina trying to worm her way into being her best friend reminds her that some people have been good to her. Alexis says Daniel has been good to her she no longer has any plans to fire him and give Wilhelmina her job. Wilhelmina is furious and storms out of the car.

Henry and Betty are still talking. He says she deserves to find a guy who appreciates how wonderful you are (how perfect is he!), he leans in for a kiss and they cut to commercial! They still don’t get to kiss after the break because Charlie shows up. Charlie is starting to like New York she wants to stay and work it out with Henry. Betty gives them the tickets and leaves.

Wilhelmina shows up at the office with Marc and Christina and tells them they need to come up with a new plan. Christina says she wants nothing to do with it, Wilhelmina threatens her. A little while later she is packing the dress up and humming when she gets a call saying Sarah Jessica Parker has decided to go with another designer. Marc (showing a more humane side) tells her Wilhelmina works fast and it gets easier in time.

Dan and “The Chin” are talking about the case and she collaborates what Betty told him earlier about his mom killing Fey Sommers when she mentions her car was seen at the crime scene.

Claire goes to see her husband in jail. Bradford reminds her she was supposed to stay quiet and let him handle it. Claire tells Bradford he is in jail because of her and she is going to turn herself in. When she gets home Daniel is waiting for her.
